The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties, (CNPP), Osun
State chapter and Centre for Human Right and Social Justice (CHRSJ) yesterday
staged a rally in Osogbo, capital of Osun State to commemorate the annulment of
the June 12, 1993 election.
The leaders of the two bodies addressed the rally at Olaiya junction
where other interest groups and civil servants joined them to mark this year
anniversary of June12.
The Chairman of CNPP, Mr Tunde Olatunji Popoola said the
impact of the acclaimed winner of the June 12 presidential election, Chief Moshood
Kasimawo Olawale popularly known as MKO Abiola, on the nation’s democracy would
not be forgotten forever.
The CNPP boss, who is also the Chairman of Osun State
Chapter of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), cautioned politicians to stop
using the name of MKO Abiola and other martyrs of democracy to deceive the poor
masses.
We can longer be deceived by politicians who usually deceive
us with the names of people like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief MKO Abiola and
Chief Bola Ige of blessed memory because our people are now wiser.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of CHRSJ, Comrade
Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman also extoled the virtues of MKO Abiola and other
Nigerians who sacrificed their lives for the enthronement of Nigeria’s democracy.
Alimi and Olatunji also used the occasion to sympathise with
Osun workers over the non-payment of their salary by the state government and
urged the state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola to find means to pay salaries of
Osun workers without further delay.
