UNICEF urges governors to launch campaigns to end violence against children

The United Nations Children’s Fund has called on governors of the 29 states who have not yet launched state-level campaigns to end violence against children to do so without further delay.

The UNICEF Representative in Nigeria, Mohamed Fall made the call in a press statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo, Osun State by the UNICEF Communication Officer, Blessing Ejiofor on the commemoration of the Children’s Day in Nigeria.

VIDEO: Food vendor, Teachers rescue man from committing suicide in Osogbo

A middle-aged man identified as Babatunde Arogundade today attempted to commit suicide in a bush behind the Christ Africa Middle School in Osogbo, capital of Osun State yesterday but a food vendor sighted him and informed the teaches in the school who prevented the man from killing himself.


It was gathered that Arogundade hung himself to a branch of the tree behind the school and he was already dangling when a food vendor saw him and screamed. 



The Peace Corps volunteers and the teachers rushed to the scene, held the man and cut the rope. They brought him down and removed the noose from his neck.

A group of professionals of Osogbo extraction under the aegis of Osogbo Affairs Foundation has congratulated the Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola on his 60th birthday celebration.

In a congratulatory message jointly signed by its Convener, Prince Hameed Oyegbade and the Chairman of Steering Committee, Mr AbdulRahaman Okunade, today, the group described Governor Rauf Aregbesola as a unique man whose enigmatic disposition and commitment to the development of the state must be commended.

While stating that Osogbo, the state capital has indeed witnessed transformation and development since the advent of Aregbesola's administration in 2010, the group implored the governor not to relent in his drive to take the state to a greater height.

NUJ award: Osogbo-born Professionals eulogize Osun Deputy Governor

A group of professionals of Osogbo extraction under the aegis of Osogbo Affairs Foundation has described  the award of 'Golden Mother' conferred on the Deputy Governor of Osun state, Mrs Titi Laoye-Tomori, by the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) as a well-deserved honor.

According to the group, the award only shows how much admiration, respect and love media practitioners in the state have for the deputy governor and also their confidence in her motherly roles.

In a statement jointly signed by its Convener, Prince Hameed Oyegbade and the Chairman of Steering Committee, Mr AbdulRahman Okunade, the group lauded the deputy governor for being a good ambassador and worthy daughter of Osogbo and urged her to continue to live by great examples which she is known for.

Swift Reporters publisher to sue Abuja Electricity Distribution Company for N100million

The publisher of the Swift Reporters online news platform, Mr Kehinde Adewole has threatened to sue the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company for N100million as damage for the untold hardship he suffered as a result of wrong disconnection of the electricity in his Abuja home.

Adewole who also petitioned the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, the Consumer Protection Council and the Minister of Power, Works and House, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola explained that the action of AEDC subjected his family to psychological trauma.

DFID organizes workshop for stakeholders to galvanise good governance













The Department for International Development (DFID) today organised a workshop for the stakeholders including the media, civil society organizations and some other groups in the South-West. 

The workshop, which was held at the Owu Crown Hotel in Ibadan, Oyo State was part of the DFID programme anchored by the Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL) in the South West region.


The workshop was part of the strategies to increase collaboration among the stakeholders in ensuring adequate media engagement that would increase citizens’ voice and influence policy decisions that would lead to delivery of dividends of democracy to the people.

UNIOSUN gets new Deputy Vice Chancellors

The Senate of Osun State University, Osogbo has elected Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye and Professor Janet Olubukola Olaitan as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellors of the university.

Briefing journalists at the weekend, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Jibola Oyekunle said the election of the new DVCs which was conducted at the sitting of Senate on Thursday, 27th April, 2017 was transparent, free and fair.
