"Whatever our position or status, honour or

we should see leadership position, especially the political class, as a
privilege. We should use such power or position to advance and improve on the
living conditions of the people we are leading.

Akande, former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Malam

Delivering a
sermon at the fidau prayer, the Chief
Imam of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Dr Taofeeq Abdul-Hameed appealed to
Nigerian leaders to always strive to do good deeds and remember death at all
times.
The Imam
charged Nigerian Leaders to be cautious, sincere, dutiful and fear God in their
dealings. He also urged them to shun greed and be selfless in discharging their
responsibilities.
Quoting copiously from the Holy Quran, Abdulhamid said
the similitude of live on earth is like engaging in recreation with its
attendant healthy rivalry and fun and ornamentation.
He quoted
from Quran chapter 57, verse 20 and urged individuals in position of authority
to mend their ways, strive to know God, move close to Him and remember the day
of reckoning.
Imam Abdul-Hameed said no matter the status of any
human being, death will certainly be the end of all things. He stated that
power is a privilege and must be used for the betterment of humanity rather
than for selfish motive.
"Position of authority should not be used for
purpose of self or for greed and aggrandizement. The followers too must be good
and honest to the leaders. If followers are good, they will force leaders to be
good and vice versa," the Imam said.
