Aregbesola speaks at IIIT 4th Int’l. Conference, charges Nigerian to be conscious of national economy

Aregbesola felicitates with Nigerians on Independence Anniversary

Osun state Governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola has congratulated Nigerians on the celebration of the country’s 57th Independence Anniversary on October 1.

The governor said this in a press statement by his Media Adviser, Mr.  Sola Fasure in Osogbo in which he tasked the people on the need to avoid violence, ethno-religious conflicts and any other behaviour capable of threatening the peace and unity of the country.

35-year-old woman bags 6-months jail term for stealing phone in  Osun

A Magistrate Court in Osogbo,  Osun State has sentenced a 35-year-old woman, Nafisat Raji to 6 months imprisonment for stealing a phone. 


The prosecutor, Inspector Joshua Oladoye told the court that the the lady stole a Techno Y6 mobile phone of one Deborah Akindele, valued N14,500 on at Fayemi Street, Osogbo 


He also said Raji also stole one HP Pavilion Laptop belonging to one Mubarak Olaboopo N45,000 on the 30th of August, 2017 at Akeju street, opposite  Government Technical College in Osogbo 


Prosecutor Joshua said that the offences committed by Raji  contravened sections 412,383 and punishable section 390(9) of Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003


As she was weeping profusely in the dock, the lady pleaded guilty of the charges preferred against her and her Counsel, Mr Nagite Okobe urged the court to be lenient with her .


In her judgement, Magistrate Adenike Olowolagba convicted Raji to 6 month imprisonment with option of fine of N3,000

A media outfit under the aegis of Urban Media Resource Limited at the weekend organised a conference where informed personalities in the South-West converged to evaluate the gains of the region in the current government at the centre led by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Top scholars including Professor Mobolaji Aluko, Dr. Charles Diji Akinola and Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi were among the guest speakers while the governor of Osun State, Mr Rauf Aregbesola also spoke extensively on true federalism during the one-day conference held in Osogbo, capital of Osun State.


The Project Consultant of the Urban Media outfit, Mr Olakunle Abimbola said the conference was organised to x-ray how the South-West had fared under Buhari’s regime and to deepen democracy in Nigeria, especially in the area of restructuring political parties along federal lines.

Factional Pensioners’ Group Lie on Payment of Severance Allowance - Aregbesola



Osun State Governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola has debunk the statement credited to a faction of the associations of retired civil servants in the state that the he paid the severance allowance of political office holders who served between November 2010 and November 2014 with a sum of N50 million each.
 
Aregbasola said this in a press statement by his Media Adviser, Mr Sola Fasure in Osogbo in which he said that the information given by the Forum of 2011/2012 Pensioners, led by Mr Omoniyi Ilesanmi was untrue and misleading and baseless.

NAPTIP Opens Zonal Command in Osogbo for Ekiti, Osun, Ondo

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has opened a zonal command in Osogbo for Ondo, Osun and Ekiti states to reduce pressure on the Lagos state command of the agency.
 
The official inauguration of the NAPTIP new office in Osogbo by the Osun State Governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola was witnessed by high caliber personalities, traditional rulers and heads of security agencies in the state.  
 
Aregbesola who was represented by his Special Adviser of Security Matter, Mr Tope Adejumo promised that the state government would collaborate with the agency to curtail human trafficking.
 
Speaking on the occasion, former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola said he was ready to support the agency in the war against human trafficking. Oyinlola urged the agency to take the campaign against human trafficking to the grassroots.

Over hundred thousand children die in Nigeria annually due to inadequate breastfeeding

At least 103,742 children died in Nigeria annually as a result of inadequate breastfeeding, according to the United Nation Children Fund (UNICEF).
UNICEF Nutrition Specialist, Mrs Ada Ezeogu disclosed this at a 2-day Media Dialogue on Breastfeeding and Global Breastfeeding Collective held in Ibadan, Oyo State, as part of activities marking the World Breastfeeding Week.

UNICEF urges governors to launch campaigns to end violence against children

The United Nations Children’s Fund has called on governors of the 29 states who have not yet launched state-level campaigns to end violence against children to do so without further delay.

VIDEO: Food vendor, Teachers rescue man from committing suicide in Osogbo

A middle-aged man identified as Babatunde Arogundade today attempted to commit suicide in a bush behind the Christ Africa Middle School in Osogbo, capital of Osun State yesterday but a food vendor sighted him and informed the teaches in the school who prevented the man from killing himself.


It was gathered that Arogundade hung himself to a branch of the tree behind the school and he was already dangling when a food vendor saw him and screamed. 



The Peace Corps volunteers and the teachers rushed to the scene, held the man and cut the rope. They brought him down and removed the noose from his neck.

Swift Reporters publisher to sue Abuja Electricity Distribution Company for N100million

The publisher of the Swift Reporters online news platform, Mr Kehinde Adewole has threatened to sue the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company for N100million as damage for the untold hardship he suffered as a result of wrong disconnection of the electricity in his Abuja home.

Adewole who also petitioned the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, the Consumer Protection Council and the Minister of Power, Works and House, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola explained that the action of AEDC subjected his family to psychological trauma.

DFID organizes workshop for stakeholders to galvanise good governance













The Department for International Development (DFID) today organised a workshop for the stakeholders including the media, civil society organizations and some other groups in the South-West. 

The workshop, which was held at the Owu Crown Hotel in Ibadan, Oyo State was part of the DFID programme anchored by the Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL) in the South West region.


The workshop was part of the strategies to increase collaboration among the stakeholders in ensuring adequate media engagement that would increase citizens’ voice and influence policy decisions that would lead to delivery of dividends of democracy to the people.

UNICEF tasks media on proper reportage of children

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has urged the media to always report issues concerning children in accordance with ethical guidelines and principles so as to safeguard and secure their future.

UNICEF Communication Officer, Blessing Ejiofor said this today at a 2-day media workshop on Ethical Reporting on Children organised by UNICEF, held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Ejiofor noted that if the media continue to report the children without following the ethical guidelines and principles, such children would be at risk of retribution consequently.
