OSUN EX COMMISSIONER DECLARES GOVERNORSHIP AMBITION UNDER LABOUR PARTY

The former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General in Osun state
during the last administration, Barrister Niyi Owolade has formally
declared his intention to contest for governorship election in the
state next year on the platform of the Labour Party (LP).

Owolade who was a strong member of the people’s Democratic Party
served as Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General during the
regime of former governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola between 2007 and 2010.
The former commissioner addressed a press conference in Osogbo,
capital of Osun State and announced that his decision to leave the PDP
due to the crisis which he said has embedded the PDP. He said his
ambition could only be realized in a progressive party like the LP
since PDP has crashed.
Owolade said he had been admitted into the LP by the state executives
of the party, explained that that LP was an alternative political party
for all progressive Nigerians willing to serve their father land.
Explaining why he preferred LP to All Progressives Congress (APC), the
governorship aspirant explained that APC is dominated by autocratic
leaders and no one could hold any position under the platform of the
APC without the approval of the likes of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
He said the development was inimical to the concept of democracy.
According to him, both the PDP and the APC lack internal democracy,
hence his resolve to seek his ambition under the LP which he said
comprise of progressive minded Nigerians.
“No true follower of Awolowo is now in the camp of the APC. We founded
the Alliance for Democracy together but the party was later high
jacked and that made me to move to the PDP. Now, the PDP has been
taken over by a cabal. The best thing to do is to join forces with the
progressives who are now moving to the LP.”
He noted that “the death of late Chief Bola Ige caused the problems in
the South-West politics. If Bola Ige was to be alive, he wouldn’t have
allowed the party to be taken over by conservatives including General
Buhari who is now a national leader of the party.”
He said he was prepared to serve the state if given the opportunity to
rule from next year, stressing that his administration would focus on
employment for youths, qualitative education and agricultural
development.
