80-YEAR-OLD OSUN MONARCH DIES AS PALACE IS SET ABLAZE

The traditional ruler of of Ilase-Ijesa in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba Adesina, Alobijuwon, died late Wednesday after unknown persons set his palace on fire.

Our correspondent gathered that the 80 year-old who lost his sight over eight years ago was attacked at his palace Wednesday evening and died in the blaze.
A traditional chief in the town, Chief Oluwagbemiga Oke, said the arsonists were yet unknown.
It was gathered that two of the monarch’s children and his house maid escaped from the inferno but the monarch was not so lucky. Workers of the Osun Ambulance Services took his corpse to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital in Osogbo where an autopsy is scheduled to be conducted.
A prominent indigene of the town, Chief Jumoke Ogunkeyede, said efforts to stop the fire by men of the state Fire Service at about 10.30pm on Wednesday yielded poor results as they ran out of water during rescue efforts. The state police command has commenced investigations into the matter and the house maid whose name could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report is already in police custody. Commenting on the development, an Ijesha high chief, the Omu-Owode Ijesha, Chief Adejumo Operinde, said certain rituals must be carried since the monarch died a painful death.
