America Consular General Lauds Aregbesola

The Consul General of United State of America in Nigeria, Mr. Jefferey Hawkins has lauded the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State for the economic, social and infrastructural renewal in the state.


Jefferey assured of more American investments and greater economic ties with Nigeria in tandem with his country's policy of African Growth and Opportunities Act (AGOA) of 2003.
Speaking in Osogbo, capital of Osun State at the weekend, Jefferey who was on a visit to the state along with a team of American consulate officials said he was happy that Aregbesola is committed to serving his people.
According to him, "The economic, social and infrastructural renewal of the Osun state under Governor Aregbesola in the last few years of being at the saddle of leadership must be applauded. Aregbesola's efforts in development in all facets cannot be glossed over."
He said visa officials at the consulate were included on his entourage so as for them to study and understand the people they are dealing with and familiarizes themselves with the people’s background, believe and culture.
He noted that Aregbesola is playing a very prominent role in the politics of the state and country, saying America, a federal system like Nigeria is interested in sub-national unit of a federal system, takes much interest in some of the states in nigeria.
 “We are in Osun to see and feel the culture and tourism of the state as well as to understand the heritage, belief system and culture of the people of the South-West. We appreciate the beautiful scenery and ambience of the Osun Groove and we hope to repeat this yearly,” Jefferey said
He said he and his team were highly impressed about the transformation going on in the state, saying it is encouraging that majority of the projects embarked on by the administration is nearing completion, which shows the committment for development.
He continued: "This trip by us is to see how far you have gone in terms of development which we have been hearing about, but we are happy to see that your government is committed to the development of your state.
He urged the state to continue with its transformation of the educational sector, noting that it is a new day for parents and pupils of pulic schools in Osun.
In his response, the governor thanked the team for their commendation and promised that his administration will not relent in doing that which is good for its citizens.
The governor noted that there is so much to be learnt from America by the state of Osun and the Country at large, saying that American democracy and federalism remains the greatest latitude in the definition of good governance.
Aregbesola said Yoruba people have respect for their beilieve and that of others, which is why they do not fight over faith or belief.
According to him, Yoruba people are renowned for their love and accommodation of visitor, saying if there is any legacy they can bequeath to the world, it is that of tolerance and accommodation.
“Yoruba people do not fight over religion. The belief of an individual is private to him, but God is for everyone. If yoruba people have anything to give the rest of the world, it is the legacy of tolerance and accommodation. That is why sometimes we are looked at as strange people. We not and cannot be perturbed or disturbed over faith,” Aregbesola said.
