A
Magistrate court in Osogbo, Osun State has sentenced a 22-year old man, Victor
Aladegolu to four years and one month imprisonment over offence bothering on
impersonation.
Victor
was accused of impersonation for wearing T-shirt resembling those of the Department
of State Security (DSS) during the Osun governorship election of August 9,
2014.
The
police had arraigned Victor before Magistrate Olusola Aluko for impersonation
and conduct likely to cause breach of the peace as contained in suit No:
MOS/577C/14 but the state ministry of justice decided to take over the case
from the police.
At
the resumed hearing, the state counsel, Barrister Biodun Badiora substituted
the earlier charges for a new 5 counts of conspiracy, impersonation, wearing of
T-shirt resembling those of men of Police orDSS uniform, conduct likely to
cause breach of peace and contempt of DSS uniform.
The
state counsel told the Magistrate that the accused person committed offences
that contravened Section 516, 108(1) 109(b), 249(I) (d), 251 of Criminal Code,
Cap 34, Laws of Osun State 2002.
The
accused person pleaded guilty to all the five counts and Magistrate Olusola
Aluko sentenced him to 3 years imprisonment in the first two counts, 1 year
imprisonment in the third count and 1 month imprisonment in the fourth and
fifth counts.
The
magistrate directed that Victor’s jail terms should run concurrently from the
date of his first arraignment on August 21, 2014.
