Two kids die in Osogbo fuel station inferno

The burnt BOVAS filling station
Two children of the same parents on Wednesday lost their lives in a fire incident that razed a supermarket located within BOVAS filling station in Osogbo while their mother also sustained serious injuries.‎

According to a witness, there were three children inside the supermarket when the fire started and two of them died in the inferno.

The deceased were said to be children of the owner of the filling station and they were brought home from their boarding school for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

A witness Ojo Williams said “we suddenly saw the woman with fire on her body but things had gone worse before the fire fighters arrived and their water was not even enough to suppress the fire.”

The mother of the children could only rescue one of the three children and the remaining two got trapped and burnt to death inside the supermarket before the arrival of the fire service. A black Toyota Corolla belonging to the woman was also burnt.

The Director of Osun State Fire Service, Michael Ogundipe explained that the fire fighter responded immediately they received distress, got to the scene on time and curtailed the fire from spreading further.

“We brought two vans to quench the fire. We would have been here earlier but there was congestion on the road. When we came, we met the fire burning but all our efforts were to no avail because there is only one exit into the building. If there were more than one exit, the people who died would have been saved”.

Ogundipe confirmed that the two children that died include a boy and a girl and that the cause of the fire outbreak was yet to be ascertained.

He advised Nigerians to obey the fire safety codes by obtaining fire extinguisher in order to prevent such tragedies related to the incident.
