Ahead of the burial of the late monarch today, town criers announced the closure in various markets and other strategic locations in the town, warning that violators should be ready to bear the consequences.

Residents who came out after observing the curfew for the Oro ritual rites quickly returned home after the announcement. Banks were also shut. Palace servants and messengers were advised to leave the premises for only members of the Isoro cult.

While commercial banks in the town also closed down, students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife were seen moving unrestricted around their campus.

Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) leaders, Chief Fredrick Fasheun and Mr Gani Adams who came to Ife to condole the Ooni’s chiefs were not allowed to enter the palace.
