The sultan was represented by the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, who led other prominent traditional rulers in the country to Osogbo, the state capital on a condolence visit Wednesday.
He described the passage of the late Ooni as a great loss to
the entire nation, noting that his contributions to the formation of the
council were unquantifiable.
He added that the late Ooni was a detribalized Nigerian and a great pillar to the council and prayed God to grant his family, people of Ile-Ife and the Yoruba race the fortitude to bear the loss.
He referred to Oba Sijuwade while alive, as a patriotic and
highly respected traditional ruler who did everything humanly possible
for the unity, progress, peaceful co-existence between and among Yorubas, Igbos
and Hausas, with utmost passion, love and unprecedented good conscience.
Governor Aregbesola said the visit of the traditional rulers
symbolized the existing unity, peace, harmony and co-habitation among
traditional rulers in Nigeria regardless of socio-cultural, ethnic and
religious differences.

Gboyega Oyetola, the governor said the role of the traditional rulers towards
the socio-political stability and economic integration can never be neglected.
